### Undefined & Indeterminate Defined

I asked for help at the end of this post but nobody came...

Never mind...today I chanced upon an excellent explanation for zero over zero and the difference between Undefined and Indeterminate.

Here.

Wow.. he explained it so well. "NOW i KNOW!", was what came to my mind.

I always thought 0/0 = 1. But... how could it, right? Gee...

The explanation was so good right? So much better than the other sites I found yesterday. Now I can sleep easy tonight haha! So anal!

I think I came to that conclusion of 0/0 = 1 because the maths teacher told us in primary school tht that was the answer and no one actually "thought" enough about it to question further. I didn't even know it was an issue! I remember whenever someone asked me abt it, my natural reaction was to say ONE. How can it NOT be when I learnt it in primary school?

I think that is one flaw of the edu system in Msia.. not many kids question the teachers, and even if you did.. you are usually forced to believe/humiliated. MOST of the time anyway.

You are def anal. I think you're prob one of the "problem" kids in school last time, weren't you? *wink* ("Teachers, pls avoid class 3 Nangka, LILIAN alert!")

LOL! I wasn't in 3 Nangkalah, I was in 3 Cempedak, then moved on to 4 Ketupat, 5 Keropok, but the best year was 6 Kacang Puteh, easy-peasy :P

Anal...I remember in P1, being very geram, cos the teacher was teaching that < means "less than", BUT I looked at it and thought it could be "more than", if you are looking at it from the perspective of the number on the right of the symbol. She didn't teach to look at it from left to right what...and we hadn't learnt to read yet.

When nuns taught us that "God helps those who help themselves" I said, But if I could already help myself, I wouldn't be asking God for help. When they said Jesus was the only way to heaven, I asked them what happened to all the old testatment people like Joseph, Moses, Jacob...I was very morbid, kept thinking they were buried but still conscious waiting till God sent his son down to earth.

In Form 1, I also led a mini-revolt against having Chinese lessons. Chinese is so badly taught even from primary level, we were just wasting the entire period by the time we got to secondary school. The nun who counselled us eventually gave in and we didn't need to have Chinese anymore from then on, wooohoooo....

So definitely a problem kid, yet they made me prefect every year.

Lilian, u have a new young fan. My DS was glued to the screen reading your blog and link on 0/0. He said "Oh.. and ah..." after reading and after that asked me if there are any other same type of questions. LOL!

Lilian said...

Oh and Ah means he understands the explanation, good job! That link is really good.

Sandy, a mum who reads my blog, has a precocious son who asks things like if the square root of i is -1, what's the square root of i. Very cheem.

I'm sure your DS has plenty of questions too. Ask him to share his thoughts with us. It's amazing what kids think about these days, no more marbles and bottle caps!
