Minako and her art

This is my friend Minako. Well, it's a self-portrait painted by her. The painting's beautiful, but doesn't really do justice to Minako, who is much more gorgeous in real life, with to-die-for porcelain smooth complexion that makes me go green with envy each time I see her.

This classy lady is an art conservator by profession (how cool is that?) but she paints too, pretty awesomely I must say. Her specialty is portraits with intricate chinois-inspired details.

My favourite though is this (pencil? charcoal?) drawing of her teenage son. So simple yet it fully captures a teenager's sense of joie de vivre and devil-may-care attitude. Love it. Minako's stories about her battles with her boy always make me laugh yet even as we laugh, we both know it's only a matter of time before my turn comes.

While Minako has her own website (for art conservation), she's still looking for someone to design a site to display her paintings. In the meantime, I've put some of them together here. I believe among these there's a portrait of her little 4th-grader Sophia. Enjoy!

Hey, she's very good!. I may need her to restore one of my paintings which was damaged by the broken glass when we moved back.

Haha Lisa, Minako lives in Moscow now while home is in the US. Maybe if she holidays in Singapore...got free air ticket? :)

BH was looking over my shoulder when I played the slideshow - he likes the technique! And yup, my favourite is the charcoal drawing. She can convey so much movement in just strips of drawing!

Wow... she's amazing! She's like Klimt from the Far East, minus the nudity, of course!

PP: You speak of Klimt and Keats, I only know milkpowder Klim and chocolate wafer KitKat. How like that?

Hey, I know someone who does websites. :)

Who? Who? Your hubby? Pass me the contact and I'll give it to Minako.

Don't know why... but Minako's paintings remind me a lot of Klimt's, probably because of the bright and contrasting coloured decorations and the one of the eye... wow, so Klimt. A bit of nude bodies some more! Haha....

Aiyah...
Klimt for his pornography mah!
Keats' "'Beauty is truth, truth beauty,' - that is all ye know on earth, and all ye need to know." was plastered on the cover of the poetry book used during my sec school days. So these two K's have left pretty deep imprints in my memory...

Btw, Klim is milk spelled the other way round, you know that right?

Actually back to paintings... I used to travel around during my uni days, walking through art museums and galleries... erm, now, cannot lah, how to with kids? With Bryan ok, but Kristin? I'd be siao doing it!

And plus then you never know what your crazy old prof would ask you for your oral exam...
so must know a little of architecture, a bit of history, paintings etc... Imagine my linguistic prof asked me a question on architecture??? Can't remember what now... but he was obviously satisfied with my guess.

But seriously, I wouldn't mind reading more on such things. I know info's everywhere now on the internet these days... but aiyah... where got time! Now my knowledge of art, history, architecture, literature - all returned to the books. Realised my memory power is diminishing ever since kids come along... I'm sure yy will have a medical explanation of that. Maybe I lack some vitamins?

Yep KLIM = MILK, knew that from long ago. And you know HARPO = OPRAH right?

I think you have an amazing memory. You have to have that in order to be good in language I think. And I noticed that you remember things you talked about with me either in past emails or FB, that I have no recollection of. Must be pretty scary for Alan :)

You also very good memory leh... with all the TVB stars history plus entertainment news...
Bet you always win a game of trivial pursuit.

Haha, Al's quite happy sometimes that I remember things that he forgets, e.g. his parents' b'days!

My memory amazing lah for boliao stuff like TVB actors, 80s trivia, Brangelina gossip! Non-productive knowledge.

My memory is scary these days... I often walk into a room wondering why I wanted to go there for.

For a few years now I've been keeping a word.doc entitled 'where things are kept'. This is what a compulsive hoarder resorts to when her memory can't quite keep up with the clutter she likes to hoard... Hubby, not a hoarder, deals with clutter by compulsively throwing things away. :-\
