Hmmm. How'd she come up with this list? I have no intention of making sure Stephen does anything on a particular timescale. From my experience, when kids are ready, they'll do it and won't even let you help if you wanted to. My job is to allow them plenty of opportunities to practice and lots of encouragement. No slave driver here that's for sure.

That's probably the best approach... requires loads of patience though.

And I'm pretty sure Sean is ready to feed himself, he sometimes does, but most days he still wants me to feed him :(

The list did remind me that there are areas which I've largely ignored, and which I definitely want to train the boys to do (without nagging/reminders), such as tidying up their rooms, clearing their toys, making up their beds.

I can't believe you came up with your own list, you're NUTS!!!

I believe all kids learn things at their own pace and to me, it's quite unrealistic to have a list like that (at least for my own children). Perhaps I'm very laid back but some of the things on the list are like 'What?!'. Louisa was still being fed when she was 2+. But the nursery nurse here told me to let Lavigne self-feed when she was slightly over 1yr old. I was skeptical but gave it a shot anyway to give myself an easier life. Now, I'm glad they both feed themselves and I eat together with them. But 'doing own laundry'? No way. I was told by a dentist that I should let the girls brush their own teeth only when they're about 6. There you go, everyone has different a different mindset and don't worry too much if your boys' skills do not match up with their peers because my elder girl do not do quite a few things on that list.
